Other ways of listening eg Alexa
If you have an Internet connection (wi-fi):
There are many ways for you to listen online, and it may take a little experimentation, perhaps with the help of friends or family, to find which works best for you.
Did you know that as well as receiving your favourite Chatterbox recordings on memory sticks and via a smart speaker we are now available as podcasts!
A podcast is a whole programme accessed on a smart speaker, smart phone or computer and available when you want to listen.
You can listen to all your Chatterbox favourites – from the weekly news, Norfolk magazine, Chataround and, of course Just Talk – simply by opening your podcast app – Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Amazon Music, Podbean, etc – and searching for the Chatterbox programme you would like.
Ask for 'Chatterbox Chataround' to hear conversations with local people;
search for 'Chatterbox Norfolk' for features and regular stories from around the county;
'Chatterbox Weekly News' will bring you all you need to know about the fine city,
whilst 'Chatterbox Just Talk' will fill your ears with our regular nonsense and a perplexing quiz.
You can activate the 'Subscribe' button and be notified whenever a new episode is launched.
Join the podcast revolution, or tell someone about us, every listen helps!
Alexa
Alexa is a service enabled by Amazon that enables you to have a dialogue with a ‘virtual helper’ called Alexa. There are many ways to access Alexa. The simplest is to use a special device called a ‘smart speaker’. This is a speaker that responds to your spoken voice commands. You can use it for lots of different things, including listening to Chatterbox.
Accessing Chatterbox material the first time you use Alexa:
Alexa is a service enabled by Amazon that allows you to have a dialogue with a ‘virtual helper’ called Alexa. There are many ways to access Alexa. The simplest is to use a special device called a ‘smart speaker’. This is a speaker that responds to your spoken voice commands. You can use it for lots of different things, including listening to Chatterbox. You will have to register the speaker with Amazon but it is free to use.
Enabling Chatterbox material the first time you use Alexa:
Say: "Alexa, enable talking newspapers"
When done, Alexa might ask you to say the name of the talking newspaper and/or the place that it is produced, i.e., Norwich.
You can then ask Alexa to play one of the following:
“Alexa, play Chatterbox weekly news”
“Alexa, play Chatterbox Just Talk”
“Alexa, play Chatterbox EDP Norfolk magazine”
“Alexa, play Chatterbox Chataround”
If you are listening to one of the Chatterbox recordings and wish to listen to another, you will need to ask Alexa to “Stop” and then go back to the beginning, saying:
"Alexa, enable talking newspapers".
Then, just go through the procedure as above but asking for the other recording. Again, Alexa might ask you to say the name of the talking newspaper and/or the place that it is produced, i.e., Norwich and might give a list of recordings that are available at that location. Just ask for the ‘other’ recording to which you wish to listen.
Be patient, and you will get to listen to the Chatterbox recordings.
When Alexa says that the talking newspapers skill has been disabled, start again from the top i.e. say Alexa enable talking newspapers which should now work.
If you have wi-fi or an internet connection we can supply you with a smart speaker at no charge and set it up for you if you wish. Please call us on 01603 765365 for information.
