Volunteers
All Chatterbox, the Norwich Talking Newspaper's helpers are volunteers. We currently have around 90 volunteers but we always need more. Mainly, we work in teams on a four-week cycle. For most roles you need no special skills because we provide training.
If you want to know more please Contact Us.
We have volunteers working in a wide range of roles.
A typical day at Chatterbox would run like this:
The first job of the day is done by the Wallet Sorters who sort the returned wallets
into alpha/numerical order, take out the memory sticks and any messages from
listeners.
The Sub-Editors cut out items of local news from the Evening News, as selected by
the week’s Editor and edit them down to a suitable size.
.
Admin Workers check and prepare wallets to ensure that there is one for everybody
on the current register.
Towards the end of the afternoon four Readers with their Sound Recordist record
the latest edition of Chatterbox.
By about 7pm the recording is complete and put onto a master memory stick.
It is then copied and checked by teams of Copiers and Checkers who put the
memory sticks into wallets ready for collection by Royal Mail on Friday morning.
They are treated as 1st class mail and should be received by listeners on Saturdays.
